Introduction
The pharmaceutical industry is under increasing pressure to adopt greener and more cost-effective manufacturing processes. Traditional hydrogenation methods, while effective, depend on precious metals and high-pressure hydrogen gas, both of which have significant drawbacks:
High cost and supply risk of precious metals (Pt, Pd)
Safety hazards associated with high-pressure hydrogen
Environmental concerns regarding waste and solvent usage
PIHSL’s R&D team has developed and piloted a catalytic system (“G Cat + R Cat”) that enables nitro to amine reduction under atmospheric pressure, without precious metals, and with significant process and sustainability benefits.
